Sorry for the silence

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 17, 2008, 5:42 PM
G'day DAers,
I'm sorry for my silence but I'm in Sydney now and australian fares for internet connections are really crazy. Here doesn't exist a flat. Anyway I'm always around and I have not so much time to spend in front of the screen. I'm shooting photos. Yesterday I've been to the Tangaro Zoo and I made some shot that I like. You will see them the next month, when I will be back home (if I ever come back...). Now I'm planning to go Bondi. And in a couple of days I guess I will fly to Tasmania. Then, I still do not know. Maybe Darwin, maybe Perth, maybe the desert, maybe New Zealand. Do you have any advice?

darling harbor in sydney is nice... there is also an aquarium as well as another type of animal faciltiy. both good for photos. if you get to circlular quay there is a nice place called the rocks district. it's just a walk up the way. it's a bit like stepping back in time with cobble stone streets and old buildings. they have a market there as well, were people sell heaps of goods.

if you get to victoria, you won't be disappointed. i spent most of my time in victoria and southern au. i was not too keen on sydney, but then again i'm not a big on cities... ha

did you see the elephants at the zoo in sydney? i was there the day they were arriving last year.

Do you know where you're going in Tasmania?? I'm crazy about that place, the whole island and all its little islands too. I don't know if you've been there before. If you have very limited time there I'd recommend Port Arthur and perhaps Freycinet Peninsula... and maybe up Mount Wellington for views of Hobart and the harbor. There are great beaches all over, great for photography anyway... some nice old-timey rural architecture, particularly in the Midlands, and if you have time to go west I suppose Cradle Mountain is the most obvious and best short trip. But it may well be wet. (The west is much, much wetter than the east.)

I definitely would recommend New Zealand too if you have time and are in the mood for lots of nature photography, but it's a sizable country, and if you've seen the European Alps much it may seem somewhat more of the same. But the flora and fauna are much different (as they also are in Tasmania) and there's rain forest on one side and near-desert on the other. Anyway... if your time is limited you may want to stick to Australia, since there are so many distinctive desert environments... I'd kill to go to Perth and of course Ayers Rock, the Olgas and the north coast and... whew, pay me no mind, I'm just crazy because I can't travel these days!! ;)

My advice: Put me in your suitcase! I will provide entertainment for you. Isn't that a great idea?

Darwin is wonderful! I lived there for over 15 years - if you go up there, make it a priority to head out to Litchfield to check out the rockpools and waterfalls. There is also alot of sandstone cliffs out there as well as on the coast - and it's ALL stunning!

Too bad I had to leave the place :(

Thank you! I needed info because I've never been in Tasmania (like Australia) before. I understand that New Zealand is a must to see but I do not know if my time will be enough. I think New Zealand deserves a month only for itself. Anyway, if tou have more informations on Tasmania, I will be happy to know :)
